Playing with movement

A lot of times I like to practice concepts or ideas on my kids. Yesterday i just wanted to play with trying to capture a moving object, in this case my daughter on a swing. For this outing I used a 5D and a 50mm 1.2 lens set on a pretty wide aperature to seperate out the background. I would capture her moving, then lock the focus down and compose ( or try to ) as she swung. I really had a lot that I liked from this mini session, but for now I am only posting this one as it is all I have processed so far.

OXO- loving some ugly dolls

Alex got us some Ugly Dolls a few Christmases back, can't remember exactly when but I know he bought them at the Contemporary Arts Museum gift shop. I have always loved these plush little dolls and I think they really started a trend. Now you see all kinds of crazy, ugly plushies and things. I probably love them for the same reason I love pug dogs, they're just so ugly, they're cute. I really miss having pugs :(

Loved this one and its blurrrrr :) Really should process the holga rolls I have in my purse....

His name is OXO.

The kitten is Tiger Lily. She caused quite the argument between two jealous sisters who thought it might be a good idea to go on a walk with her....she looks as exasperated as I felt listening to them....

Sadie in Blue - Houston child portrait

Today we spent the day painting the bathroom a pretty sky blue color with white trim. I dont think this little house has been painted in, oh, I dunno, 10 years...at least?  We have decided that we dont really feel like moving any time soon, even though our little house is small. We are zoned to some great schools, we are extremely centrally located, our little house is in a really great neighborhood....and we are not in any position to buy a house anytime soon...so here we are.  We decided that we would like our little place to be a bit more zippy though, since we will be here a while longer, so we painted and replaced the vinyl tile in the bathroom. Now we are deciding what room is next...girls room ( light, bright green paint), kitchen ( blue?) dining room? living room? Those both currently have hideous dark wood paneling which I just got the OK to paint. Maybe once its all done I will have a party :)

Tiny Wind- Houston, Tx Children's lifestyle portrait

Today was sort of a lazy day at home. Cooked a fritatta ( ham, eggs, potatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro...yum)

Made some coffee (mexican altura something or other) hung out, searched for my lensbaby, so I had to clean my room. Finally found it. Still don't like it much.  Maybe I will play with it more later. At least I know where it is now. I took it out before I headed to a wedding in the Dominican Republic ( which I still need to post!)

Hung out with the girls, made dinner ( Fajitas) then went swimming at the Love Pool in the Heights. It was our first time there and it was a pretty great pool actually. Will definitly think of heading back tomorrow.

Picked the dandelions in the neighbors back yard. They just moved out this weekend and Sadie has been waiting for them to leave so she could get to those dandelions. I hope we get good new neighbors. Preferably someone with a kiddo or two.

Took some photos of Sadie and the dandelions as she blew their little seedlings into the wind.

Walked to Amy's ice cream. I had the lemon ice, Alex and Sadie had the white chocolate macadamia and Maddie had the coffee.

Sadie is now crashed on the couch, Maddie is watching a movie ( probably asleep too) and I am about to head off to bed myself. Might reread some Sookie Stackhouse novel in anticipation to the next season of True Blood.

Alex is still planning to take over the world.

Oh and in case you are wondering, I am just trying to make my self blog almost every day for at least a month so that it becomes a habit :)
