Bevin - River Oaks Country Club bridals

A few weeks back I got to play with Bevin on a Sunday and take some bridal portraits for her upcoming wedding ( which was this past Saturday- photos from that later). I was not able to show them until now because we wanted to keep her beautiful Monique Lhuillier dress a secret until the big day. Isn't she gorgeous?! We chose River Oaks Country Club as our location because it is so filled with light and I absolutely LOVE the hand painted wall paper.

Bevin was a great subject to have for so many reasons, but the best was that she let me do whatever I wanted and we got to get some great and creative photos for her. Bevin is a photographer as well as the interem directer for the Houston Center for Photography, so I brought along my big ole crown graphic to use as a prop. I also got to use my home made tilt shift lens, which I am so in love with. I think I am going to have to name her soon. I was thinking Georgia or Gertie.....

FYI, I shot these for D. Jones Photography and David and I both shot the wedding!

The Lamb Awaits

Today Sadie and I went to see Spike Jonze's version of "Where the Wild Things Are." This was my absolutely.favorite.book.ever. when I was a kid.My daughters have always loved it too but I have to say that I was kind of lukewarm about the movie. Don't get me wrong, I thought Max Records portrayal of Max was great and he was just about super adorable, but I just felt so much like it could have some how been more....fantastical maybe? The monsters also seemed a bit neurotic for my taste....I dunno. I guess the book was pretty short and had not much of a plot, so I know Mr. Jonze had to just make it up...but yeah.

Anyways, a photo....

Clara senior portrait- Galveston

I took these pictures of Clara this summer. She lives in Montana but had lived in Texas when she was younger and wanted something a little different from her friends. We had special zpermission to use the Elissa Tallship as our backdrop and then after that we headed down to the beach for some sunset shots.

Junk Gypsy Prom

Ok, for years and years a friend of mine, Paula, has been showing off these rocking pohotos she has taken at something she called the gypsy prom. I would always see the really cool photos of people dressed up in petticoats, cowboy boots and vintage prom dresses ( lots of tiaras too) and I always wanted to go. But then I would remember (unfailingly) about the prom a week AFTER it had taken place.....Not this year! With a helpful reminder from Paula ( thank you facebook!) I actually made it over to Warrenton.

The prom is actually held in an outdoor space set up next to the junk gypsy booth in Warrenton during antiques week  ( it is always on a Thursday) every April and October. This was actually my first time there and next time I am not only bringing my camera, but I am bringing a uhaul and a big wad of cash. There was just so much stuff!

I did not actually stay at the prom too late because it was getting dark and the girls had school the next day, but I definitely plan on going again in April ( hopefully it will be during a mild cold snap- it was steamy this year!)

Anyways, here are some photos!

Gotta love the slight pigeon toed stance of the girl on the left.

Love the old school Christmas lights and decorations in the background. The Dairy Queen sign in the back and the little lunch box by her feet. And their dresses of course.

Ok, funny story.... I actually posted these on flicr and facebook firsty and a friend of mine saw this photo and then had a friend hunt this ( yes, this particular one) typewritewr down and buy it! She had had a similar one before and her mom gave it away without asking. Isn't that awesome??

I think the fortune telling book and cards helped her to know she was in the right place :)

Loved this.

I love sideshow banners ( or even banners that are just made to look that way)

My little junk gypsy

this little guy was whittling. So cute! Hope he did not cut himself. Sadie and he became fast friends.

Playing with movement

A lot of times I like to practice concepts or ideas on my kids. Yesterday i just wanted to play with trying to capture a moving object, in this case my daughter on a swing. For this outing I used a 5D and a 50mm 1.2 lens set on a pretty wide aperature to seperate out the background. I would capture her moving, then lock the focus down and compose ( or try to ) as she swung. I really had a lot that I liked from this mini session, but for now I am only posting this one as it is all I have processed so far.
